East Central’s Kacy Mixon signs soccer scholarship with Pearl River Community College
East Central’s Kacy Mixon signed a soccer scholarship with Pearl River Community College on January 19, before a home crowd at H. D. Shirley Field. Coach Jack Byrd of Pearl River Community College said, “Our interest in Kacy is with her talent, but because of the MACJC rules we weren’t able to talk to her until this year. We’ve watched Kacy play several times, and she proves it on the field day in and day out, but the special thing about Kacy is what a special kid she is. She will be a welcome addition to Pearl River Community College.”
Coach Ryan Ceccorulli said, “It’s always exciting to see your players go on to the next level, especially to further something you have a passion for. Hopefully, she’ll instill that passion in her to move on past the community college level and go on to the 4-year school; and possibly beyond that."
Jackson County School Board elects new officers
The Jackson County School Board held their regular monthly meeting on January 12, at the District Office.
Elections for positions on the board were held. The following board members will hold office in 2012:
President: Kenneth Fountain
Vice-President: Troy Frisbee
Secretary: Randall Turner
The board also re-addressed the issue of praying before graduation and athletic events. This item will continue to be on the agenda until a resolution is made. The board is looking to our legislature for support and involvement as well.
The next meeting of the board is scheduled for February 13 at 5:00 p.m., at the District Office in Vancleave.
